Makeup Favorites

Hello again,

Today I'm sharing some of my fave makeup products with you guys!

Before I start, let me say I'm usually not very adventurous when it comes to my makeup. For years, I was stuck on a retro/pinup look, and I wouldn't do my eye makeup without lining my upper lid with liquid liner. My life is a bit hectic these days, and I have no time to create a perfect cat eye on a daily basis. So I've settled into this 5 minute makeup look.

This lovely palette by Tarte inspired me to write this post. Behold...ALL. THE. GLITTER. Keep reading to see what's inside....

First, I use Elf BB Creme. It's very inexpensive, and goes on a bit thick at first because of the sunscreen. But once it soaks into my skin, it's perfect.

Next, I use Make-Up Forever's Full Cover Concealer. It's one of the few concealers that will disguise my dark under eye circles AND doesn't settle into my wrinkles.

To set my look and even out my skin, I use NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat. On it's own, it's not quite the coverage I'm looking for, but with BB cream it is perfect.

I usually use whatever light bronzer I have lying around to do a light contour under my cheekbone. I found this Lorac bronzer at TJMaxx and it works great.

For blush, I use this Wet n Wild Coloricon blush in Pink. My package is currently broken to bits, so I'm using a stock photo, lol. It's a beautiful, pinky peach with a bit of shimmer.

Speaking of Wet n Wild, I'm digging these cheap little makeup brushes I found at Five Below.

Soooooo... here is the inside of that lovely Tarte pallete. It is named Love, Trust, & Fairy Dust. I purchased it online from Sephora as a birthday gift to myself. The colors I use the most are Giggle, Whimsical, Flitter, and Gossamer. It's not a glitter explosion as the packaging might suggest. I find these colors very wearable, and romantic.

I have non existent eyelashes, and have a tough time finding a rad mascara. Soap and Glory's Thick & Fast Extensions Effect Mascara was my favorite until I discovered Thrive's mascara via a Facebook Ad. I know, it's lame as hell, but I'm a sucker for a good Facebook Ad. Thrive mascara doesn't smear or run in the Florida heat and humidity. It is a buildable mascara with little fibers to make your lashes look awesome.

I like to give my brows a bit of definition and color, and NYX's Tinted Brow Mascara in Brunette works well for me.

Finally, onto lipstick. I don't have time for lipstick touch ups during the day, so I like a rosey liquid lip that I can put on and forget about. I've been using Sephora's Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick, and it works well for me. But, I have read that not all Sephora brand products are all cruelty-free, and I am working on moving all of my beauty products in that direction. So, I will be on the hunt for another great liquid lipstick.
The first swatch is Vintage Rosewood, the second is Marvelous Mauve.

Last, but certainly not least, is this NYX Setting spray. It works as well, if not better, than the more expensive brands.

Well, here are a couple of pictures of my mug with a full face of the above makeup.

Shawna's Birthday Jam

Hi Again!

It's Monday, yo. I'm currently knee deep in comic book inventory, but a few weeks ago I was having a blast with my best friends.

Late last month, went out to celebrate my best friend Shawna's birthday. August in Florida is scorching hot, so I opted for a dress, loose kimono, and sandals ensemble.
 Kimono: Ross
Dress: Old Torrid
This is before I found a new place to take photos. The mermaid boobs upstaged me every time!
We Ubered to downtown St Augustine, hung out at Scarlett O'Haras, and drank adult beverages.
Fun fact: Shawna and Misti are sisters, and I am best friends with them both. I've known them since I was 16 years old. This only child does have two rad sisters.

Thanks for stopping by!

My Hero: Myrtle Snow

Since I was a little girl, I have looked up to strong and charismatic female characters in books, film, music, and TV. In celebration of the return of American Horror Story tonight (and that it's a Murder House/Coven crossover!!), I'm dedicating this post to one of my all time favorite characters, Myrtle Snow.

Myrtle is one of the elder witches in American Horror Story Season 3: Coven, and is played to perfection by Frances Conroy. She is a fashion obsessed badass. She has a gentle, elegant demeanor, but she is never afraid to speak her mind. She wants the best for the young witches at Miss Robichaux's Academy, and for Cordelia, who she knows would make the best Supreme. Plus, she has some of the best one liners in the entire show.

I was nearing my 40s when I first watched Coven. What struck me is how amazing the "mature" ladies of the show were. How cool, how fashionable, how fearless....damn, they were something to aspire to! Sadly, complex, older female characters are rarities on American television. Frances Conroy, Jessica Lange,  and Kathy Bates showed me that getting old is actually pretty fierce.

So, here are a few of my favorite Myrtle gifs, and photos to celebrate this amazing character. I hope that she (somehow) returns to AHS tonight!
I mean, her style is perfection.
Her eye wear collection!
Her one liners...yasssss!

Have a good one,

Hey, Hey, Hey...I'm Old

Hi Again!

I'm back sooner than I anticipated.....I guess I'm on a roll of some sort(?).

Today is my birthday, dudes. It started out as a good day; sushi buffet lunch with my Mom and Sophie (Aron had a convention in Orlando he had to vend). My Mom had been thinking about getting a parakeet, so we stopped by PetSmart on the way home from lunch. I should have known that taking my preschooler into a pet store after a long lunch was a bad idea, but I ignored my instincts and went for it. We obtained a parakeet, but only after 4 mini meltdowns and loss of patience on my part. Hey, at least the meltdowns were minis. Dinner was chicken nuggets and burned cookies. It wasn't my finest day as a mom, or a human, but Sophie went to bed full and happy, so that is a win.

But hey, the day started off on a rad note. Before we left for my Mom's, I took a few photos in my new Torrid dress. it's a midi dress, and has quite a bit of fabric to it. But, I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. It has a nice romantic feel.
My sweet Sophie joined me for pics as well. I'm not sure why these turned out so blurry.

Thanks for stopping by :)

A Return To Fashion Nuggets

Hello Again!

Well it's been quite a while before I shared any Fashion Nuggets on my blog! Like most former bloggers, I was Instagraming any outfit I wanted to share, at least until today...

After I purchased an iPhone tripod with remote last month, I began to think about blogging again. I took some awkward photos underneath our nude mermaid artwork. See below for a giggle...
Boobs? I don't see any boobs.
Oh yea, there they are. Right above my head. I've since found a better place to take outfit photos.

Dress: Old Navy
Fluorite Necklace: Etsy

With this Old Navy Dress, I found that the standard sizing in an XXL fit me better than the same dress in their plus size line. They were very bulky and had too much fabric for my taste.

When Sophie and Aron got home, I asked if we could subject them to a round of family photos with my fancy new tripod. Here are some results, heeee.
I hope the (maybe) 2 people reading this have a rad weekend. I'll be back with another post on Monday.
Oh yea,and in case you'd like to see my Instagram, here are the links:

Well, hi there.

It's been a minute, Dudes. If there is anyone out there still reading, let me fill you in.

My little family moved back home to Florida in January. It was, and is, great to be home with our friends and family. But soon after our return, my wonderful stepdad, Mike, got sick, and passed away in April. He was such an awesome man, and we miss him so very much.

My mother was diagnosed with dementia in February, and I have become her part time caregiver. It's been a big adjustment for her, but she is doing great. Her doctor today refereed to her as a "rock star". She's such a strong, positive person. It's a tough road to walk with her, but I am determined to do my best to make her life as joyous as possible.

My rad daughter Sophie is doing well in pre-school, and starts kindergarten next year. My husband Aron has found a job, and we are still running Twisted Heroes and Lola Rocks clothing. Time really does speed right along.

As for me? Well, I still love fashion, makeup, cult tv shows, and pinup. But I am also commuting 4 days a week to hang out with my mom, trying to run our businesses, and most of all be a good mother, wife, and friend. Blogging is (obviously) no longer a major priority for me. But, it's something I keep coming back to, even 8 years into it. I like to write, and I like to share fashion, beauty, art, slices of life, and randomness that make up my world. I know blogging has fallen out of fashion somewhat, and I'm totally fine with that. It doesn't have to be about comments, or partnerships, or monetizing this space. It can be just for me, and if you would like to come along for the ride, that is awesome, too.

Here are some life nuggets from the past 5 months:
One of our first trips back to magical Vilano Beach.
Day trip to the Alligator Farm in February.
Mother's Day sushi hunting with my Mom.
Isabella Rossellini and Kyle MacLachlan at David's Lynch's Festival of Disruption in Brooklyn. My mind was blown that day! My BFF Shawna was with me, and she saw her first David Lynch film that day...it was Blue Velvet. I'll be composing a post on this rad event very soon.
Misti, Shawna, and me at the Violent Femmes/Echo and the Bunnymen show in St Augustine. Much beer, dancing, and Ubering took place that night! It was an evening of spontaneous fun, and I felt young for the first time in a very long while. It was a much needed night with my ladies!
Fashion wise, I have been living in these casual Old Navy dresses. They are lightweight and perfect for the thick Florida humidity.

The past 5 months can really only be summed up with the below Twin Peaks memes:
I'll end this post with some real talk. The past 5 months have been an emotional roller coaster ride...and I don't like roller coasters. I don't like heights. I don't like uncertainty.

I've struggled with balancing my many roles, my new responsibilities, my new life here in Florida. We hit the ground running the month we moved back home, and I have known stress like I have never known before. It has changed me, and hopefully for the better.

Some days I am a boss lady, handling shit right and left. Other days, I just work here...part time. Other days I am just getting by, but those days are fewer and fewer. I'm learning to take time for myself, so that I can be present for my family and friends. Learning to take time for the small, enjoyable things in life...not just the go, go, go until I can go no more. Time to rest.

So, I am home again. Can we ever really go home again? Not exactly, but this is close enough for me.
