Lola Rocks The Velvet

Hello again!

After a two month absence, I'm back! Fall has been insane for us: we've been trying to buy a home, keep up with businesses, fam and friends, and blogging definitely fell to the back burner. But...I wanted to share some of the awesome velvet looks we have in our store, Lola Rocks Clothing.

I fell in love with these velvet dresses when they arrived. They are multi size, regal, and comfortable.

These leggings have been selling incredibly well, Probably because they are a nice fit, and only $12 shipped in the US.
Crushed Velvet Leggings
I'm in love with these plus size velvet mini dresses.

Last, but certainly not least, are these gorgeous plus size velvet joggers.

I'll be back soon with a bit of rambling about my love of floral dresses.

Crazy Cat Lady Dress

Hi Again!

Happy first day of October! I hope your Monday is treating you well.

Last Saturday, Sophie, Aron, my mom, and me visited the Riverside Arts Market in Jacksonville. It was a rad market full of art, food trucks, and produce. I wanted to wear the dress that my store, Lola Rocks Clothing, received from Sourpuss this week. I'm usually not one for light pastels, but this dress is covered in vintage style kitty illustrations. Yes, guys, a dress covered in adorable kitties. How could I resist?
Sourpuss Cat Lady Dress: Lola Rocks Clothing (sizes S-XXXL, $36 shipped in US)
MAK Cropped Cardigan: Lola Rocks Clothing
My beautiful little Sophie wanted to get in on the picture taking.
The market is open every Saturday, and is located under the Fuller Warren Bridge. At first thought, it seemed like an odd location. But, it keeps you mostly out of the blazing Florida sun, so it works for me.

We walked around, had lunch, and Aron hunted for jam and bread to take home. We were all pretty overheated by the end of the trip (it was in the 90s that day), but it was fun nonetheless. Sophie had a blast, because we bought her a bubble gum flavored SnowBall.
These two cuties
I almost forgot to share a picture of the kitty that has made me a Crazy Cat Lady, yet again. Her name is Shadow, or Shadow Buns, as I like to call her.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hey, Hey, Hey...I'm Old

Hi Again!

I'm back sooner than I anticipated.....I guess I'm on a roll of some sort(?).

Today is my birthday, dudes. It started out as a good day; sushi buffet lunch with my Mom and Sophie (Aron had a convention in Orlando he had to vend). My Mom had been thinking about getting a parakeet, so we stopped by PetSmart on the way home from lunch. I should have known that taking my preschooler into a pet store after a long lunch was a bad idea, but I ignored my instincts and went for it. We obtained a parakeet, but only after 4 mini meltdowns and loss of patience on my part. Hey, at least the meltdowns were minis. Dinner was chicken nuggets and burned cookies. It wasn't my finest day as a mom, or a human, but Sophie went to bed full and happy, so that is a win.

But hey, the day started off on a rad note. Before we left for my Mom's, I took a few photos in my new Torrid dress. it's a midi dress, and has quite a bit of fabric to it. But, I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. It has a nice romantic feel.
My sweet Sophie joined me for pics as well. I'm not sure why these turned out so blurry.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Yep, it's me again.

I doubt anyone out there is still reading this little blog o' mine, but the desire to blog has been strong as of late. It's almost as strong as when I first started What Lola Wants, when blogging was FUN. So I figure, maybe I'll give this another go!

First up, my Little Pumpkin. Sophie is now almost 19 months old...what? Wait, how did that happen? I blink and she's rolling over, blink again and she's crawling, then sitting up, and now walking..well running actually.

Here are some pics from her first birthday way back in January...
In March, Sophie started a Mother's Day Out program that we all loved. Twice a week I would drop her off in the morning and come back and get her in the early afternoon. My heart broke as she cried, but I knew it was good for her to socialize, and for me to have a bit of time to work and have some "me" time.

Sophie is growing up to be a smart, strong, beautiful little toddler. She loves being outside, bananas, and our kitty, Sebastian. She can be a Tiny Terror at times, but she really is an amazing little girl.

Speaking of amazing, can I brag for a moment on what a great Dad Aron is? He is patient, loving, and so much fun. Sophie truly is Dada's girl.

We had some family photos taken this May. I won't bore you with a billion of them, I'll just share my faves...
I've spent all Summer with Sophie, which is awesome, and exhausting. I haven't had much time for fashion, books, or me in general. I did manage to sneak away for a few lunches girl's nights with my buddies :)
I've been on a kimono kick lately. It seems that, right before Fall arrives, I'm enamoured with boho or witchy looks. I like taking a break from my 40s/50's inspired retro looks.
Hopefully, my future outfit photos will be a bit nicer than a bathroom mirror selfie, with bras hanging on the doorknob!

I think my next blog will be entertainment based. I've watched some amazing movies and TV shows lately (Kimmy Schmidt, yea!). I leave you with an image from last years Dragon Con preparation. We are working on this day and night. Actually, I should go do that now!
Thank you for stopping by!

Fashion Nugget: Mommy and Me # 1

Hello Again!

Things have been insanely busy in our world (Baby Sophie, Dragon Con, minor home projects), but I wanted to take a quick moment and post a Mommy and Me outfit post. I'm thinking of making these a regular feature on my blog :)

I confess, these photos aren't new, they were taken in mid July. I can't believe how much our little Sophie has grown. She is now over 7 months old!

We wore these outfits to a quick dinner at Red Robin. So far, Sophie has been great in restaurants and around people in general, so an occasional meal out is still doable.
Top and Shorts: Torrid
Shoes: DSW (old)
"S" Heart Necklace: Tiffany's
Sophie's tropical look: Koala Baby
She looks thrilled.
Going for the boob.
Those eyes :)

A Rare Red Lip Day

Hello Again!

Yep, I am back with another Torrid fashion nugget. It seems like I've been wearing Torrid exclusively this Summer! I hope to continue this trend into the Fall.
Leopard Shrug: Torrid
Dress: Torrid
Necklace: Dragonfly in Saint Augustine
Shoes: Ross (old)
Lipstick: MAC Russian Red

As much as I love the look of red lips, I rarely wear them. I find that no matter what tricks I use when applying, the red fades and needs to be reapplied throughout the day. MAC Russian Red is the best formula I have found, as it takes a few hours before another coat is needed.

This outfit showcases two of my main loves: leopard and the color black. I can't get enough of either. I hoard little leopard cardigans and shrugs like a crazy person.

Hope you are having a good one!

Leopard and Roses

Hello Again!

Lazy blogger is back! This time I'll spare you photos of food, and go straight to an outfit post.
Dress: Torrid
Shrug: Wet Seal
Shoes: Ross (old)
Hair Flower: Lola's Lovelies

This dress has become one of my go to looks for Summer. It is a lightweight fabric, and has an easy, breezy shape. I just throw on a shrug and I am ready to go. At first I thought the pattern was a bit too cray cray for me, but I came to my senses and realized it was perfect.

What have y'all been up to this Summer? I've been a bit of hermit. Our business has kept us busy, and we are still preparing to vend at the big mother-Dragon*Con. We aren't even nearly ready to go, but no big deal, right? It's only 5 weeks away *breaks out in a cold sweat*.

Aside from prepping our stock, we have been enjoying an overabundance of pizza, and watching Fringe from the beginning on Nextflix. Glamourous, no?

I hope Summer is treating you right!

Leopard and Lens Flares

Hello Again!

I took a week off from blogging last week to recharge and regroup. I am back with a Fashion Nugget featuring one of my favorite brands, Torrid!
Dress: Torrid
Shrug: Wet Seal
Hair Flower: Lola's Lovelies
Shoes: Ross (3 years old, and still worn on a near daily basis)

This is one of the dresses I picked up at the Torrid grand opening. It is super comfortable, yet cute. I love the neutral leopard print. I'm wearing it with this lightweight shrug I picked up at Wet Seal online. I'm almost embarrassed to admit how much I wear these shoes. I picked them up at Ross 3 years ago, and they just won't die!

I wore this outfit on a matinee movie date with Aron. We went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness. It was an entertaining movie, though I can see how a purist Trekie wouldn't enjoy it. However, I am a sucker for JJ Abrams-lens flares and all!

Hope you all have a great week, thanks for stopping by!

Feeling Dotty

Hello Again!

A few weeks ago, I attended an Origami Owl Party at my friend Kelly's house. I wasn't too familiar with the Origami Owl brand, but after seeing their products, I quickly fell in love. The company specializes in rad "living lockets" with interchangeable faces, charms, and so on. The party was fun, and I spent a bit too much on this rad jewelry :)

I always feel comfortable in a maxi dress, so I wore this polka dot number to the party.
Dress & Shrug: Torrid

I'm a sucker for all things polka dot print. I bought this dress on a Torrid BOGO sale, and though it is pricey, it is comfortable and stylish.

I am off to pack orders, and set up to vend at Hypericon in Nashville. If you are in the area, stop by and say hi! Have a great day!

My First Vlog: Spring/Summer 2013 Plus Size Fashion Haul

Hello Again!

I made my first vlog, y'all! Here is a brief Spring/Summer Fashion Haul by yours truly.

Vloging is not an easy task! How do You Tube Bloggers do this on a daily, weekly, even monthly basis?  I found myself tripping over my words, making strange faces, and wanting to set my tripod on fire. That said, I have a few more vloging ideas, so perhaps I will eventually get the hang of it! Subscribe to my You Tube channel here.

Let me know what ya think! Feedback is always appreciated.

Brunch Time

Hello Again,

A few Sundays ago, The Ellers had friends over for brunch and a viewing of DJango Unchained. Bloody Marys and bloody movies are a winning combination! Though I am more of a Mimosa kind of gal...

I wore this bright, cheap dress I picked up at Ross. It reminds me of a 1950s peasant, vacation dress.

Dress: Ross
Bow Flats: Target (old)
There were waffles & fruit topping, potatoes, deviled eggs, fruit, and cupcakes. I am salivating just remembering this meal. Tracy did an amazing job hosting this brunch!
Tracy also made these little coconut strawberry confections. They were so yummy!

DJango Unchained is an amazing film. We first saw it with the Ellers on Christmas Day, so this was our second viewing. It was even better the second time around.

I hope you are all having a fab Friday. I am off to set up for a comic convention this weekend. I will be skipping the convention this Saturday morning, and attending the grand opening of our local Torrid with some friends. Woo hoo!

Happy Spring!

Hello Again!

We just returned from selling our wares at MegaCon in Orlando, and are beyond exhausted. Not to mention I have roughly 50 boxes of funny books to inventory! But, I couldn't resist wishing you all a Happy Spring!

How many of you are excited for the change of season? Spring is my favorite of all the seasons, it brings me such a feeling of peace and renewal.

Spring is also my favorite season to shop for. I love the possibility of ditching my boots and tights for bare legs and flats (though it is still pretty chilly here in Tennessee).I gravitate towards more fun, colorful items in the warmer months.

I wanted to share some items on my Spring wish list. As usual, I am obsessed with polka dots and retro style :)

Here are a few of my favorite dresses:

Here are a few of my fave seperates:

Here are a few of my favorite accessories:

Stop by next week, and I will share all of the fun MegaCon 2013 geekery with you!

Happy Spring Equinox!
