A Return To Fashion Nuggets

Hello Again!

Well it's been quite a while before I shared any Fashion Nuggets on my blog! Like most former bloggers, I was Instagraming any outfit I wanted to share, at least until today...

After I purchased an iPhone tripod with remote last month, I began to think about blogging again. I took some awkward photos underneath our nude mermaid artwork. See below for a giggle...
Boobs? I don't see any boobs.
Oh yea, there they are. Right above my head. I've since found a better place to take outfit photos.

Dress: Old Navy
Fluorite Necklace: Etsy

With this Old Navy Dress, I found that the standard sizing in an XXL fit me better than the same dress in their plus size line. They were very bulky and had too much fabric for my taste.

When Sophie and Aron got home, I asked if we could subject them to a round of family photos with my fancy new tripod. Here are some results, heeee.
I hope the (maybe) 2 people reading this have a rad weekend. I'll be back with another post on Monday.
Oh yea,and in case you'd like to see my Instagram, here are the links:

Plus Size Maternity Finds

Hello Again!

I know, very long time, no blog. We have been super busy vending at Dragon*Con, and are getting ready to head out to vend at Scarefest in Lexington this weekend. I am over 17 weeks pregnant, and have been feeling pretty well. I can't wait to finish up with this last convention (for a few months) and focus on getting ready for the baby!

I am plus size, and finding cute maternity clothing has been challenging, to say the least. Heck, finding any plus size maternity clothing has been challenging! Frumpy, potato sack styles are the norm in curvy lady maternity wear. I find this very odd-don't many straight size women end up plus size (or close to it ) at some point in their pregnancy? So, why aren't there more options available?

Well, I haven't let it get me down. Honestly, most of my pre-pregnancy dresses are empire waist, and will work for at least the next few months. I also have some cute looser tops that are OK. But it's almost Fall, and I want to shop!

I have managed to find some nice maternity styles online for plus size ladies, but I've had zero luck in stores. Here are a few cute maternity and maternity friendly looks.

The best luck I've had with maternity styles is Old Navy online. They don't carry true plus sizes in maternity, but their size 18 and XXL runs fairly large, and I think many of their styles would accommodate up to a 22W. Here are some of their current looks.
1) Rockstar Denim Jacket-Here's a confession: I bought one of these last year before I was pregnant, and wore the heck out of it. It is a trendy, slightly cropped look for non-pregnant ladies as well.
2) Demi-Ankle Pants-I ordered these last week. Let's hope they look as cute as in the photo.
3) Tie-Waist Tunic- I also ordered this top. I think it will be comfy with leggings.
4) Polka Dot V-Neck Sweater-This sweater is brand new on the website, and I have a feeling it will sell out soon.

On a side note, Old Navy's  Rockstar Demi Panel Skinnies  are the only pair of decent maternity jeans I've found thus far. But, I'm not sure the panel will stretch enough to accommodate the entire 9 months. I am a size 20, and their 18 worked for me.

JC Penny's is another site that has some cool plus maternity looks. I haven't ordered anything as of yet, but these looks are pretty intriguing.
1) 3/4 Sleeve Striped Tie-Side Ruched Top I'm a sucker for stripes, and I love the ruched side.
2) Twill Overbelly Skinny Pants I was surprised to find these fashion forward pants on their website.
3) Cowlneck Cable Sweater Dress A comfortable and cute look for Fall, just pair with leggings.
4) Embellished Top I like the bling around the neckline.

ASOS's maternity line stops at a US 14, but there are some pregnancy friendly options in their ASOS Curve line. I haven't given these a try yet, but I do love their swing dress options.
1) ASOS Curve Exclusive Swing Dress With Lace Sleeves I think this would be perfect for the holidays!
2) ASOS Curve Waterfall Cardigan Perfect layering cardigan for Fall.
3) Alice and You Swing Dress A casual dress to wear with tights.
4) New Look Inspire Leather Look Trim Shell Cute layering tank.

Thanks for checking out my plus size maternity picks! Have a great Friday :)

My Trusty Jean Jacket

I have a new love in my life. I found it in the back of my closet, and made it mine once again. It's my trusty jean jacket!
Jean Jacket: Old Navy (old)
Dress: Torrid (old)
Bean Necklace: (Tiffany's-gift from Aron)
I wore this outfit out to dinner with my friend Kelly and her daughter JaiLynn. We had Mexican food, a couple of drinks, and rad conversation. It was fun!
I attempted this hasty manicure before I left for dinner. I used the Project Runway Fall 2012 color, the Muses' Attitude. I love the midnight teal color!

Hope you all have a fab day!

The Best Cookies Ever!

Katie and Becca made these adorable (and delicious) cookies for my friend Becca's bachelorette party. Yes, they are happy (and terrified) little penises.
Here's what I wore to the shindig. Yes, I'm a dork.

Top: Marshall's (old)
Jeans: Old Navy Rockstar Jeggings (last year)
Shoes: Old
Necklace: Pamela Love

The Bachelorette in her snazzy hat.
The amazingly yummy and beautiful spread at Katie's house.
Me and Becca

The party was a Pure Romance party. I'll spare you the details :)
Becca beating the crap out of her cupcake pinata.
I should have rated this post adults only.

Have a good one!

Farmers' Market Fun

Hello Again!

Aron and I headed down to the local farmers' market last weekend to purchase some local yummies. I was feeling a boho vibe that day, so I broke out my Torrid chrochet shrug. Wheeee!

Crochet Tank & Skirt: Torrid
Top: Old Navy
Shoes: Ross (old)
Necklace: Pamela Love

The sky looked ominous, but we managed to get some goodies!
Some rad local honey
 Yummy tomatoes
Bacon! The seller told us there was no meat in these. I think he was messing with us.
After the farmers market, Aron headed to The Great Escape to dig through comics. I headed over to Walmart for a snack, and spotted this yumminess. I didn't buy one, but I was tempted.
I spotted this at The Great Escape. It hurt my heart a bit to realize I was 19 when this movie came out. The soundtrack is epic.

Have you entered our Forever 21 Gift Card Giveaway?

Have a good one :)

My Favorite Thing: An Ode to The Maxi Dress

Oh maxi dress, how I adore thee...

Like so many fashion bloggers, I have become a bit obssessed with the maxi dress trend this year. While I usually prefer my dresses around knee length, I must say that a full length dress is super comfortable in the summertime.

My only gripe is that designers tend to make maxi dresses strapless, and for my chest size, that generally doesn't work. Would it kill the deisgners to throw me a little sleeve now and then?

Here is a rundown of some of my favorite maxi dresses. The first two I own, the rest are just a dream.

(available at Lola-Rocks Clothing)

So how are you guys liking the maxi dress trend this year? Yay or nay?

Thanks for stopping by!

Dinner With The Birthday Boy

Hello Again!

I must say, I am rather proud of myself for blogging an average of twice a week. *Pat on the back commences*  Summer is the busiest time of the year for our business, so I'm impressed that I have managed to sneak in some blogging.

Friday was my sweet Aron's birthday. Every year (like most men), he refuses to tell me what he wants, leaving me to my own devices. I picked up Archer Season 2 for him, along with the banned Family Guy episode, both of which he fully enjoyed. He has such a sick sense of humor, and I love him for it.

We decided to try a new to us Thai restaurant in town, but it ended up being pretty disappointing. Bland and bleh. Hey, at least we looked cute.

By the way, I am officially obsessed with maxi dresses. I might have to devote an entire blog post to that subject.

 Dress: Old Navy
Shrug: Target
Bag: Betsey Johnson

Though the birthday dinner was disapointing, his birthday get together the next day rocked! More on that in the next post.

Thanks for stopping by!

My New Lovelies

First, I want to thank everyone for their kind comments regarding Aron's grandmothers passing. We flew to New Jersey on Wednesday for Emma's funeral, and spent time with family and friends. Can I just say how amazing Aron's family is? They are such a tight knit and wonderful group of people. Even with the support of family, it was still a very rough week.

Though it feels strange to blog right now, I am easing back into it with a quick post on my recent purchases.

I fell in love with this sweater. It has a great pinup/rockabilly feel to it.  I'd been watching closely to see how low the sale price would go. $29 was low enough for me :)

Forever 21 Sweetheart Bird Print Dress

This lovely item is now out of stock. I haven't received this dress yet, but I hope it is a winner.

This lightweight sweater has such a French, gamine feel to it. It will be great for Spring.

I'm not much of  belt person, but I couldn't resist this one. Slap quaint little bow on just about anything, and I will buy it! The price is pretty amazing as well.

I'm not a big white tshirt fan, but I figure I can layer this one with a cardigan. I love the vintage Barbie design.

I like the fit of this dress, except it is about 4 inches too long. I will be getting it hemmed, and wearing the heck out of it this Spring.

As you can see, I have gone on a bit of an online shopping spree. This has forced me to look at my budget and curtail my spending a bit. I installed a budget app into my iPhone to keep track of my personal spending habits, business spending, and dining out budget. As far as personal spending, I will allow myself $150-200 per month to spend on myself. That includes not just clothing, but haircuts, pedicures, makeup, and even lunch out with friends. I think that is realistic and doable.

I hope Tuesday is treating you right :)

Christmas Cheer

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you all had a great Christmas! Our Christmas was wonderful this year; relaxing, festive, and fun. There was good times and cocktails with friends, sweet times with the hubby, and (of course) a bounty of yummy food.

Christmas Eve was spent cooking and watching our favorite Christmas movies: Love Actually and the 80s classic, Better Off Dead. So maybe Better Off Dead isn't exactly a Christmas movie, but a portion of it takes places during the holidays, so that's good enough for us :)

We decided to go for a walk to work up an appetite for Christmas Eve noms. I am wearing my old Old Navy coat, Old Navy hat, and Forever 21 gloves.

I made some Jalapeno Cornbread on Christmas Eve as well. My friend Leah shared this family recipe with me years ago, and it has been a favorite ever since. But it is a secret recipe, so no sharing......but...
....I think I can share this recipe for tortellini salad, a recipe that Aron's Mom shared with me. I will be doing a recipe tutorial for this dish this week :)

Aron watching Better Off Dead

Christmas Day was filled with presents, food, and good times with our friends Ben and Tracy.
I wore my Pure Energy dress, Mossimo cardigan, and Forever 21 plus leggings. Please excuse the kitty dishes in the background. I wanted to be cute yet comfortable, and I have been obsessed with floral dresses for a while now-maybe forever :)
Aron gave me the Pamela Love bird claw necklace I've be dreaming of :)

Ben and Tracy came over, and we ate yummy food and opened presents.
Aron and me with our presents from Ben & Tracy. He received some awesome World of Strange shirts, and Tracy made me an amazing, retro, reversible apron with with my name monogrammed on one side, and "I Wanna Baked Potato", on the other. "I Wanna Baked Potato" is a joke from several conventions ago. When asked what I wanted to eat (or how I was doing for that matter), I would say "I Wanna Baked Potato". I have a tendency to go catatonic at comic conventions :)

I cried when I received this beautiful apron. It meant so much to me that she made it, and that it was a personalized to fit my crazy personality.

So, we had a wonderful Christmas! It is difficult to be away from our friends and family in Florida, but spending time with our friends in Tennessee is delightful. How were your holidays this year?

I will be back tomorrow to share more of my Christmas loot!
