Peplum Power!

Hello Again!

I apologize for my long absence. We returned from selling our wares at Megacon early last week, so life has mainly been about playing catchup.

I know I am super late to the Oscars fashion party, but I have to discuss the peplum dresses spotted on the red carpet. My favorite dresses of the night belonged to Michelle Williams and Tina Fey.

Michelle's dress was jaw dropping in my opinion. I adored the color, the fabric, and the little details of the bow pin and pink clutch. Tina's look was rich and sophisticated, and looked stunning on her. What do both of these dresses have in common? They are both peplum style gowns!

I have never been a fan of peplum styles. I was under the impression that they gave women a bulky, hip-y appearance. I was hesitant about trying out this look, but decided to take the plunge a few weeks ago and try this Torrid skirt. Boy was a wrong about peplum!

I love this skirt immensely! It is flattering, highwaisted, and one where you can tuck in form fitting blouses. But....I must say that I am not proud of the quality of these photos! The only decent one is the first, which Aron took with my IPHONE. I have been saying this for a while now, but I will be investing in a decent camera...soon. I need to save up a bit longer, but it will happen. I've heard the Cannon Rebel is a good one. Any thoughts?

The day I wore this outfit I had lunch with Aron at Chili's. It was an emotionally draining day, but it felt good to get dressed up and spend time with my sweet husband. I also stopped off at Ross for a bit of shopping. I found 2 Betseyville bags, both for a third of the retail price!  I adore roomy, crossybody bags. My other leopard Betseyville has seen better days, so I thought it was time to replace her.

I need to add a disclaimer to my purchase postings. I am a big time bargain shopper, I refuse to pay retail for most things. So it might look like I am breaking the bank at time, but trust me, I am not. Still, I guess I should have put this money towards a new camera, huh?

On The Road Again....& a Slacker Valentines Day

We are on our way to Orlando, Florida to sell our wares at MegaCon. MegaCon is a ginormous comic and pop culture convention that we set up at every year. I'm trying out the mobile blogging again, but don't worry, Aron is driving :)

We were so busy getting ready for the convention, that we ended up slacking big time on Valentines Day. Me and Aron exchanged cards & candy, and had a yummy lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. I wore my Forever 21 heart sweater, because that's how I roll.

I ended up staying up late last night to make more Lola's Lovelies creations. I hope these sell at the convention.

Endings and Beginnings

I try to keep my blog content light and happy, full of fashion nuggets, food, and good times. But I also believe in being honest with my readers, and occasionally sharing some of the less pleasant times in my life.

A close friendship of mine ended recently. I am still confused on exactly how or why it ended, and I guess I may never really know. An event took place a few months back that hurt my feelings deeply. I tried to ignore how I felt, and let it go, but I could not. I expressed (nicely) my hurt feelings to my friend. She didn't like what I had to say, and I suppose that was the end of our friendship.

From what I've gathered, this friend has moved on nicely, has a bunch of new friends, and is doing just fine. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I felt this disposable. She was one of the first people I knew when we first moved here, and I was very close to her and her family. It really broke my heart.

I've lived in Tennessee for about 2 years now, and have made some great friends as well. But it is always traumatic when a close friendship ends, especially among women. It is something I have not experienced since I was 16 years old, as I value my girlfriends so very much.

Well, there it is. Honestly, I think I posted this for myself more than for anyone else. I am letting this friendship go with love and well wishes. It is time to remember the good times, and move on towards the future. I think the below quote sums it all up.

“Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.” - Dr. Seuss

Waiting on A Grilled Cheese

Hello Again!

The first Friday of February, the Nashville Farmers' Market hosted a Meet 'N Three. This event brought together crafty vendors, local artists, and fabulous food trucks. Our friend Steph of Wicked Little Shinies was there selling her wares, so we decided to check it out. My first questions was, as always, what do I wear?

Like most of the country, Tennessee's weather has been unseasonably warm. I was able to get away with my top, cardigan, and skirt with no jacket.

These photos are evidence how much I need a new camera. They also let me know it was time touch up my roots :)

After we said hi to Steph and Fred, we headed over to the food trucks to check out the grubs. It was madness I tell you. After wandering around for a bit, we decided on The Grilled Cheeserie. It was a long of a wait for all the trucks, so we toughed out the hour and a half wait for our grilled cheese. The grilled Brie and Bacon was sooo worth it. Besides, the waiting was fun since we got to hang out with Ben & Tracy!

May I have my grilled cheese? Please?

Vegas Day 2: Desert Fashion in The Valley of Fire

I am back to share Day 2 of our Vegas trip with you.The majority if this day was spent about 50 miles outside of Vegas, in the Valley of Fire State Park. Yep, I am going to be the obnoxious person showing you a gazillion vacation photos, so prepare yourself!

Even though I knew we would be hiking through the desert, I still wanted to play with my Sephora goodies the purchased the previous day. Hey, I was feeling glam :)

 I generally don't play around with eye shadow colors, but I loved the soft greens of the KVD palette.

We headed out to the Valley of Fire in the morning. Courtesy of the park's website, here is a quick summary of the location:

"Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest and largest state park, dedicated 1935. The valley derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyph. Popular activities include camping, hiking, picnicking and photography."

 Aron drove us out to the park :)

 We stopped at a large valley right before the park entrance. A nice family was snapping photos as well, and we took turns taking each others picture.

I gasped when I saw the red sandstone-the photos really don't do it justice!

The petroglyphs blew my mind. I love imagining what these images really mean, what stories they are trying to tell....

After the Valley of Fire, I subjected poor Aron to the mall ( I was searching for brown tights to no avail). Afterwards, we headed back to the room to freshen up before dinner.

I tried to get a cute pic of my outfit, but the indoor lighting was a nightmare. Wearing a shrug, Tripp dress, and a Perlina forest green clutch. I really need a decent camera. Sigh....

We walked over to the Venetian for dinner at Bouchon. I can't really say enough good things about this restaurant. Aron's brother recommended it to us when we were on our honeymoon 3 years ago. I was worried about the "snooty" factor, but I always feel very at ease at Bouchon. 5 stars all the way. I am part French, so I love cheese very,very much. And there steak and fries is out of control.
