Dinner With The Birthday Boy

Hello Again!

I must say, I am rather proud of myself for blogging an average of twice a week. *Pat on the back commences*  Summer is the busiest time of the year for our business, so I'm impressed that I have managed to sneak in some blogging.

Friday was my sweet Aron's birthday. Every year (like most men), he refuses to tell me what he wants, leaving me to my own devices. I picked up Archer Season 2 for him, along with the banned Family Guy episode, both of which he fully enjoyed. He has such a sick sense of humor, and I love him for it.

We decided to try a new to us Thai restaurant in town, but it ended up being pretty disappointing. Bland and bleh. Hey, at least we looked cute.

By the way, I am officially obsessed with maxi dresses. I might have to devote an entire blog post to that subject.

 Dress: Old Navy
Shrug: Target
Bag: Betsey Johnson

Though the birthday dinner was disapointing, his birthday get together the next day rocked! More on that in the next post.

Thanks for stopping by!

My First DIY Tutorial: Easy Peasy Necklace Organizer

Hello Again!

Yes, this is the first DIY tutorial post on my blog. I hate to call this a DIY tutorial because it is beyond easy. But technically this undertaking is a little bit crafty, so DIY tutorial it is.

Who here loves Pinterest? Yep, so do I. A couple of months ago, I began searching Pinterest for a DIY necklace organizer to craft, as I was having no luck finding a ready made version that met my needs (I have a TON of necklaces, as you will see in a moment). It seemed everything I found on Pinterest was either too involved, or too small to hold my collection.

So, I was wandering through Hobby Lobby one day, and noticed this Paris themed corkboard. Hmmmm, I thought... I wonder if I could just stick some hook thingies in this and use it to hang my necklaces?

Then, on a separate trip to Walmart, I found these little decorative nail-pins in the hardware department. They had a nice sized hook, and the nail head was relatively short. Aha, I thought, perfect for the Paris corkboard!
So how in the heck do you make this? It's pretty simple:

1)Take nail-hooks and loosely line them up as you would like your necklaces to hang. There are no rules here ladies!
2)Press the nail heads into the corkboard. You may have to adjust them a few times for the line of hooks to be straight, or use a ruler. I just poked them into the corkboard until they looked pretty.
3)Hang your creation on the wall and hang necklaces on hooks. You are done!

You can use virtually any piece of thick corkboard you like, framed or not, as long as you can hang it on your wall, or prop in on your dresser.
Here is the finished product. Notice my ridiculous necklace collection?
I hope you enjoyed this quick little tutorial!

Beatersville Car & Bike Show

Hello Again!

I hope you are all having a fab week! As promised, here is the last post from our visit in Louisville.

We spent out last day in Louisville at the Beatersville Car and Bike show. I tried my best to dress for the heat, but I failed. But can you really win when it's 95 degrees outside?

Skirt and Tank: Forever 21 Plus
Bag: Betsey Johnson
Sunglasses: Target

Here are some rad rides from the show:
After looking at some amazing vehicles, we stopped by the Phoenix Hills Saloon to check out the Pretty Things Peepshow's act.

After the show, we wandered around in the heat for a bit, then decided to head back home. Here is some rad horsey art for your viewing pleasure.

A Quick Little Fashion Nugget

Hello Again!

I wanted to share a quick fashion nugget with you today. This is one of my favorite silouettes for Summer: a bodycon skirt with a loose (but nipped at the waist) top.
 Top: Pure Energy from Target
Skirt: Forever 21 Plus
Sandals: Old
Hair Flower: Lola's Lovelies
Seashell Necklace: Dragonflies in St Augustine, FL
I've also been doing a sponge roller set I learned in the pinup class I attended. It is a bit of a pain, but I like the way the curls turn out.

I have also become a bit obessessed with MAC cosmetics. I purchased MAC Studio Fix foundation, and I love it. I also bought the perfect coral lipstick shade, Crosswires. Yes, I have finally given into the lure of nice cosmetics. I feel like a grownup now :)

For any that are intereted in how to do a roller set, check out this video. This is part 1 of 3, the actual setting your hair portion.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wine and Pancakes

Hello Again!

We had a nice weekend here in Tennessee! It started Friday night with an impromptu Mexican dinner/drinking extravaganza with some friends. The ladies (myself included) fell asleep in the living room after one too many Pina Coladas, and the guys sipped bourbon on the back porch.

I woke up around 2 and hung out with Aron and Ben. In our groggy, inebriated states, we decided that pancakes were needed. Of course, none of us were in any state to drive, so Aron and I made our sober pancake run the next day.
This little dude pretty much sums up my feeling on pancakes.

Saturday night, I attended my meetup group's Wine and Crafting night. I picked up my friend Kelly and drove out to the hostess's gorgeous country home.It was a nice evening spent partaking in wine and scrapbooking. It was such fun!

I've never been much of a wine drinker, but I tried a Yellow Tail Moscato that was wonderful. It has a slight fizz and is sweet and slightly fruity.

This is one of the pages I scrapped that night. The photo is from a the weekend before last, pool day. Ahhhhh....

Hope you are all having a great day!

The Tiki Dress Came Out to Play

Thank you for all of the nice feedback on my pinup class post!

As promised, here are some more good times in Louisville.

After the pinup class, Aron picked me up and we headed out to dinner. I decided to wear the Tiki dress I snagged at the Dressbarn Blogger Event. I am a bit obsessed with the Retro Tiki look, and this dress really has that pinup vibe.
Tiki Dress: Dressbarn
Bag: Betsey Johnson
Shoes: Torrid

We headed over to a restaurant called Limestone. It was a little pricey, but the food was yum.
We had a couple of pretty drinks
Limestone had an impressive Bourbon selection.

We had burgers for dinner and spice cake for desert.
Thanks for stopping by! My last Louisville post will be next week, all about the Beatersville Car show.

Lazy Summer Days

Well guys, Summer is officially here. For me, Summer is all about hanging with my peeps, reading a trashy novel (or three), and frolicking around in any available body of water. I had a taste of Summer last weekend, and it was delicious......
The day started out with pedis at Tippy Toes
We had lunch and drinks at Chilis, then headed over to Becca's pool.
Tracy made a gorgeous and tasty cake for Steph's birthday.
Later that evening,we ate some yummy crock pot barbecue and hung out with the dudes
.
Too bad that about 90% off my Summer will be spent indoors working, but I hope to sneak in another lazy day (or three). What are your favorite Summer activities?

Pinup Girl Class

Hello again!

I bet you are wondering, "Who in the heck is this chick?" It's me-after my pinup class with Go-Go Amy and photoshoot with Boudoir Louisville!

As most of you know, I have a deep love of pinup & rockabilly culture. I've been a fan of Go-Go Amy and the Pretty Things Peepshow for a few years now, and was thrilled to see she'd be teaching a pinup class in Louisville, KY. The class took place the same weekend as Beatersville car show, was held at the fabulous Boudoir Louisville studio, and even included a photo session after the class!

Aron and I drove up to Louisville in the morning, and he dropped me off at the studio while he went and checked out local comic shops. We spent the first few hours of the class learning about the history of pinup, trying out makeup techniques, and having our hair done.

After our makeup and hair was complete, we dressed in our best pinup gear, and had a photoshoot with Ryan from Boudoir Louisville. Ryan and his assistant were awesome! I was nervous before the shoot, but they put me completely at ease, and I actually had fun! Here are a few photos from the shoot:

I wore my Heidi dress from Pinup Girl Clothing.

Stay tuned for more good times in Louisville :)
