My Favorite Thing: Redheads

So, my favorite thing/people this week are redheads. I realize that sentence might sound a bit pervry, but I promise I don't mean it in that way! I am just a bit obsessed with the beauty that is red hair.

Redheads have endured quite a bit of grief throughout early history, with accusations of witchcraft, volatile tempers, and uncontrolled passions. At least modern times have been a bit kinder. Here are some of my favorite redheads:

I was not lucky enough to be born with red tresses. My natural color is a dark brown, but I took care of that when I was 15 years old. I spent the weekend with my friend at her family's beach condo, and decided it was time to become the redhead I had always dreamed of being. So, I bought a bottle or two of L'oreal's Copper Penny, and made it happen. I lied to my mom and told her I had just put a bit of Sun-In in my hair. Somehow that seemed more innocent.

Over the past 20 years, my hair was been dark brown, platinum blonde, and now back to a copper red.  What hair dye do I use? It is Feria #74, Copper Shimmer.

Nature, especially the ocean. I miss it terribly since our move to Tennessee.

Mad Men Ladies at the Emmys

Good Morning Peeps,

Girls pool day today, wooo hooo! Just had to throw that in there :)

I scanned the Emmy red carpet looks yesterday, and I really have to give kudos to my Mad Men girls. They all looked fabulous, took risks, and in my opinion, pulled it off!

January Jones in Versace, Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan, Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen.

January Jones has received quite a bit of flack for her futuristic Versace number, but I think I like it! It is a bit shocking to see Betty Draper in something modern, but it works.

While Elizabeth Moss's look is certainly the "safest", it is truly beautiful and becoming. Why does it seem like everyone on the planet, save myself, can wear this beigy-nude color? I look like a corpse.

Last, but certainly not least, is my girl crush Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen. Christina discussed how difficult it was to find an Emmy dress, since the designers only had size 0 and 2 samples to send her. And she is a size 14. Yep, you heard it, Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive is a size 14. So suck it Hollywood.

I have to add a disclaimer that a size 14 is my goal size, me being a size 20 at the current time. A size 14, in my opinion, is tiny. Just throwing that out there.

Here is another pic of Christina in her dress. I love the color, the fit, all of it. She has received a ration of shit about this look as well. I think the haters are afraid of her breasts.

Fashion Inspiration: Joan Holloway

Happy Friday to you all! I have a busy day of errands ahead of me, but wanted to take a moment to indulge in a bit of glamour!

It should be no secret that I have a bit of a girl crush on Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan Hollloway on my fave TV show, Mad Men. I just die over her hair, fab clothing, and her amazing curves! Joan is who I want to be when I grow up :)

So, I paid a little homage to Joanie via Polyvore. Now mind you, most of these items are out of my reach price wise. But, I think a little fantasy is good for the soul. Besides, this is to get us inspired, not to copy piece by piece.

I have not rocked the retro Joan look much this Summer. I have been mostly wearing flowy boho stlyes, or ultra casula pieces, mostly becuase of the heat! Once Fall is here, I will try to don some pin-up looks again.

Oh Mad Men, how I've missed you!

Oh Mad Men, how long has it been? 6 months? Or more? Oh the insanity!

My favorite show in the whole wide world (sorry True Blood) returns this Sunday, and I am soooo excited! Well written, beautifully acted, and oh the clothing! The fabulous clothing!

One particular episode stands out in my mind this morning-we'll call it "Marilyn or Jackie", though I am not sure if that is the true title. The guys and Peggy were working on the Platex ad campaign, and were discussing who women really want to be. Of course, the fabulous guys decide that women want to be who men want them to be! Wowzers. Anyways, it was decided (though Peggy rightfully disagreed) that all women either want to be Marilyn Monroe or Jackie Kennedy, that these are the only two types of women that exist. Though I completely disagree, it was still a fascinating episode The men strolled around the office labeling all the women as a "Jackie" or a "Marilyn". Except one-Joan. They took one look at her and said "Marilyn is a Joan."

Which brings us to the fashion portion of this blog: Joan Holloway of Mad Men, played by the gorgeous Christina Hendricks.



Let's start with this, Joan doesn't take any shit from anyone, at least not in the workplace (her personal life is another matter). She is Sterling Cooper's office manager, runs a tight ship, and looks amazing while doing so! She dons pencil skirts, form fitting dresses, heels, and her gorgeous red hair. She's the office bombshell, yet she commands respect.

I think that, subconsciously, Joan is the reason I decided to be a redhead again. I realized that redheads can have just as much fun as platinum blondes (without wrecking havoc on my poor hair).
