Oscars 2013 Fashion

Hello Again!

How may of you watched the Oscars last night, or at least the red carpet fashion show? Honestly, I wasn't overly excited about many of the dresses. Perhaps I was craving more dramatic looks for such a big night. But, there was still some truly gorgeous fashion to be seen.

I noticed a soft, ethereal theme to many of the night's dresses.
1) Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
2) Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji
3) Amy Adams in Oscar de La Renta
4) Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive

A few stars chose a stronger color palette. Adele chose her (and my) favorite color...black.
1) Kerry Washington in Miu Miu
2) Adele in Jenny Packham
3) Jennifer Garner in Gucci
4) Jennifer Aniston in Valentino

Here are a few of my least favorite looks. I don't truly hate any of these dresses, they just aren't my jam. Melissa McCarthy's gown has to be my least favorite look. She is such a beautiful and talented woman, and I wish she would dress the hell out of those curves.
1) Melissa McCarthy in David Meister Signature
2) Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille Couture
3) Olivia Munn in Marchesa
4) Catherine Zeta Jones in Zuhair Murad

How did you feel about the looks last night?

I Love You and I Like You

My love for Parks and Recreation is eternal. This show is the perfect mix of quirky humor and heartfelt moments. They had me at Meat Tornado.

So, who cried like a baby during last night's Ben and Leslie wedding episode? I sure as heck did! I won't be giving any spoilers, but it was heartwarming, and imperfectly perfect :)
(Source:NBC)
To celebrate Leslie and Ben's nuptials, I put together a post chocked full of joyful Parks and Recs nuggets. Yes, I am aware these are fictitious characters. Leave me alone!
If you haven't checked out Parks and Rec, go ahead and treat yo self! Seasons 1-4 are all streaming on Netflix. You're welcome!

Happy Friday my friends :)

Social Whirlwind

Hello Again!

The first Saturday in February was a bit of a social whirlwind for me! I knew I'd be out and about for most of the day, so I decided to wear my favorite new outfit.

When I spotted this Wet Seal dress on Kirstin Marie's blog, and knew had to have one for myself! I even picked up this rad little leopard jacket.
Jacket: Wet Seal
Dress: Wet Seal
Leggings: Forever 21 Plus
Bow Flats: Target (old)
Necklace: Lola's Lovelies

My first stop on social-palooza was a rad ladies cookie party in Nashville. We all made cookies for exchanging and tasting. These ladies can bake, and were a blast to hang out with! Sara was an amazing host, and made the yummiest food and drinks.
Later that night, I headed to a Bunco party with Kelly & Hannah. This was my first time playing Bunco, and I had a great time! I was surprised to learn that, because I had the most total Bunco's, that I was the winner for the night! (I rarely won the table, so winning never even crossed my mind!) It was nice to hang out with this rad group of ladies.
Yay for social whirlwinds! It was truly a fun day.

Thanks for stopping by!

Ikea Adventure

Hello Again!

A few weeks ago, Aron and I took a trip to the Ikea in Atlanta, Georgia to pick up some much needed office and living room furniture. When will Nashville have it's own Ikea? That is the eternal question....

I wanted to be comfortable, yet cute, so I wore my City Chic High-low dress, cardigan, and Forever 21+ leggings.

As you can see, the weather did not want to cooperate with photo taking. It was damp, miserable, flat hair day. I don't love these photos, but it is what it is.

Dress & Cardigan: City Chic
Leggings: Forever 21+
Shoes: Me Too (old)

We got a late start, and arrived at Ikea around 3. We decided to eat first (yay for Swedish Meatballs!), and then do some shopping. I ran into my dream kitchen on the way to look at shelving.
It was a successful trip! We managed to stuff 2 new bookshelves, a glass display cabinet, a side table, a desk, and 2 new organizational shelves/drawers into our Pathfinder! Aron has mad packing skills.

Dress Addiction

Hello Again!

I have a bit of an obsession with dresses. In fact, I consider myself a bit of a dress collector. I've preferred dresses over pants and jeans for as long as I can remember, mainly due to their comfort and versatility. I simply feel more like me while wearing a dress or a skirt.

Simply Be is a UK based retailer that has a bountiful selection of gorgeous plus sized looks. Their selection of plus size dresses is impressive. I browsed their Spring collection, and found some awesome items.

Here are some great retro and pinup styles

I also spotted some rad boho looks

I highly recommend Simply Be to all my plus size readers. I purchased two fab dresses from them just last year. They even have a 20% off discount code for new customers, coupon code 5102.

Birthday Cake Shots

Hello Again!

Do you like sweets? Do you like sweet booze? Then you will love this post!

We threw a birthday party for my buddy Tracy last weekend. There were great friends, drinks, and a ton of food. I forgot to take photos (for the most part), so here are the nuggets I managed to capture.

There were plenty of desserts at the party. Tracy brought one as well, though it was her shin-dig and I told her not too! But she made a delicious eclair cake, so I let it go. The photo beside the cake are of some bright green flowers I found at Publix. Bright green is Tracy's fave color, so I thought they were appropriate.

Becca was irritated that I hadn't taken any photos of her Cookie Dough Brownie cupcakes. So, here is a photo. They were dope.

Now, here are the birthday cake shooters. Tracy found this recipe on Pinterest, and they were her only request for the party. We all know that sugary booze gives the worst hangovers, but these were somehow worth it.

Here is the recipe care of Sweetapolita:
  • 1 ounce (30 ml) cake-flavoured vodka (e.g. Pinnacle or Three Olives)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) dry white cake mix
  • 1/2 ounce (15 ml) chocolate liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce (15 ml) half & half (10.5-18% fat cream)
  • whipped cream (for topping)
  • sprinkles (for topping)
Instructions
  1. Shake all ingredients in a martini shaker with ice and strain into sprinkle-rimmed (optional) shooter or shot glass and top with whipped cream and more sprinkles
