My Favorite Things: Halloween Edition

Happy Halloween my lovely readers! This weeks My Favorite Thing is Halloween, of course :)

First, I want to share some Halloween party photos with you. Our friends The Ellers were nice enough to invite us along to the The Pate's Halloween Party last Saturday. The Pate's throw an amazing Halloween party every year, and this years' theme was White Trash. For whatever reason, I wasn't really feeling a costume-I played it safe with a skeleton tee and jeans. Boo to me!
Me dancing toward Tracy and Aron making his Muppet face. Tracy says this photo captures our essences perfectly, and she is correct :)

Too much fun was had by all, and I woke up Sunday with a wicked hangover.

So, let's discuss Halloween movies, shall we? What are your favorite horror films? Here are my top five:
3)The Grudge (both the Japanese and American versions)
5)Shaun of the Dead (but that is more comedy)
Happy Halloween!

I'm Still Here: Random Fashion Nugget and Lola-Rocks Giveaway!

Hello Sweet Readers!

Yes, I am still here. I managed to get sick a couple of weeks ago, and the cough and fatigue is lingering. I do feel better today than I have in a while! I tried the "rubbing Vicks Vapor Rub on your feet" home remedy for my cough last night, and it worked. Seriously, you rub it on your feet, put on your socks,  go to sleep, and you wake up feeling better! So hurrah!

I have been wanting to share this Fashion Nugget for a bit now. It is a casual outfit I wore over to a friends house for the premiere of American Horror Story on FX.

Knit Blazer: Forever 21 Plus
Top: ASOS
Necklace: Mark Ryden Rose Necklace
Shoes: Mossimo

So, have y'all checked out American Horror Story? It is pretty trippy stuff, and scary to boot.

One more thing-the fabulous Amber Rose is hosting a giveaway on her blog for my website, Lola-Rocks Clothing! Go check it out, I think today is the last day to enter :)

Happy Friday everyone!

My Favorite Things: Pamela Love Jewelry

I have recently stated that I need to start a new blog feature titled "Shit I Can't Afford". It looks like Pamela Love Jewelry falls into that category. But a girl can dream, can't she?

I am fascinated by Pamela Love's Classic Collection: the bird claws, talons, and the snake necklaces have such an amazing, organic feel. Maybe the eagle claw necklace will be a Christmas present from my fabulous husband? We'll see.....

Thanks for stopping by :)

Nuggets of Fall and LAST day to enter our giveaway!

Here are some random Fall nuggets from yours truly.
Found this lotion on sale at Bath and Body Works. It smells like pumpkin heaven.

Ran into her at Halloween Town. Isn't she lovely?
Our friend Amy sent us these eyeball salt and pepper shakers-we love them!

Tracy made candycorn cupcakes for a recent horror movie night. They were yum!
You can't really tell from this photo, but the colors are changing on our back yard trees.
The tree in our front yard has gone scarlet, and quickly dropped most of it's leaves.

Today is the LAST day to enter our giveaway, so do eeet!

Fashion Nugget of the Day: Flakey Fall Weather & my ASOS dress

I decided to wear one of my favorite dresses out on Saturday night. The weather here in Tennessee is rather flakey: low to mid 80s during the day, higher 40s at night. So, I have been doing quite a bit of layering. I wore this dress sans sweater for most of the evening, but needed one later on in the night.

 Dress: ASOS Curve last year
Leggings: Mossimo last year
Bow Flats: Mossimo

I have to say, this outfit is very me. I collect dresses, especially flowy, floral, empire waist (but not too billowy) numbers, and I love to wear them year round. I have been doing this look for years, with tiny updates and variations. I believe in wearing what you love :)

Hope you are having a great week, thanks for stopping by :)

Oh ASOS.....

I need to start a blog feature titled "Shit I Can't Afford". Today we are featuring some ASOS pieces I will be lusting after for some time, at least until they are marked down on clearance. Make that marked down 5 times over on clearance. Here we go....
This coat is so "me", it's terrifying. Did I mention I collect coats? And dresses? And purses....

One item that I can afford is this beauty. I can see myself layering it with tights this Fall/Winter. Hmmmm

Well, enough of my whinning. Do you like free stuff? If so, don't forget to enter our giveaway, ending Friday October 14th!

My Favorite Thing: Love & Rockets: The Maggie & Hopey Stories

My husband Aron introduced me to the world of comics, or "funny-books" as I fondly call them. Before meeting Aron, I thought ALL comics were of the superhero genre. In my world, comic books equalled dude in a cape (or God forbid a leotard) saving the world from destruction and mayhem...yawn...... Oh, good grief was I wrong about comics!

The first book to change my mind was Terry Moore's series, Strangers in Paradise. I was sitting on the floor of the comic shop "Dragons Tale" in Jacksonville Beach, waiting for Aron to look through the 25 cent boxes, when I spotted the single issue  "I Dream of You". I read through it quickly, and was impressed. There was depth, story, and great art. Strangers In Paradise is considered a great book to introduce women into the male-centric comic book world.

About a year later I discovered Love & Rockets, mainly the Jamie Hernandez stories involving Maggie and Hopey. Los Brothers Hernandez consist of Jamie, Gilbert, and occasionally Mario. They have been writing Love and Rockets since the 1980s, so saying that I am late to the party is a huge understatement.

Jamie's earliest stories are known as the "Locas" stories. The stories began with the adventures of Maggie and Hopey, best friends & sometimes lovers; Latinas living in the punk rock subculture of Southern California. There is a bit of sci-fi, superhero, and ladies wrestling thrown in for fun!

I began reading these stories backwards, with the most recent (at the time) Ghost of Hoppers, which show us a grown up, fleshy, beautiful Maggie and all of the demons that still haunt her from her hometown of Hoppers. I still need to read the earliest stories!

What I love most about Jamie's art and writing is how human it is, in the best way.  Jamie is not afraid to write about the sadness and silences in life, and for that, I love and respect his work. There is also a wicked, fun sense of humor in all of the Love and Rockets books.

So, even if you are not a comic lover, check out Love and Rockets, the Locas stories. Their publisher, Fanatagraphics, has re-released the earlier work into easy to follow volumes. Also, check out this page on their website, it will navigate you on how to read these in order, unlike me! This is the first volume to read....the one I need to get caught up on :)

Check out Love and Rockets on our website, Twisted Heroes.

Don't forget to enter our giveaway :)

Happy Monday to you all!
