Anniversary-Palooza

Hello Again!

Have you entered our Urban Decay Giveaway? Today is the last day to enter!

Aron and I spread our anniversary celebration out over a few days. For the first leg of our adventure, we visited Bell Buckle, Tennessee to check out some antique shops and spend a relaxing day together.

Bell Buckle is a small town with shops that specialize in handmade gifts, antiques, and yummy food. I like the down home feel of their tiny downtown area.

We started off looking in a few of the local antique stores.

Aron spotted books, of course :)

After we looked through a few shops, we stopped for a quick lunch at the cafe. Then we had some delicious ice cream, and looked around a bit more.
Photobucket
Bell Buckle also has two larger antique malls withing walking distance of the main cluster of shops. It was there that I found some awesome milk glass vases.

Here are some of our cool antique finds:

My milk glass vases, bunny figurine, and 1959 copy of "The Electric Cookbook".

First, let me say that I didn't know how deep my love of milk glass was until I saw it in multitudes in the antique shops. Most of it was pretty pricey, but a picked these vases up for a couple of bucks each. Oh, and how can you go wrong with a $2 bunny figurine?

This brings me to the cookbook. This fascinating piece of history takes me back to a time where a woman's "first interest is her family, who loves to please her husband and children, whose heart grows warm when they like what she cooks". Their words, not mine :)

The next day, we headed over to Franklin to check out some shops at The Factory. I wore my favorite, old ASOS dress.
Photobucket
At The Factory's Antique shop., we found this awesome, rose gold, pearl, and ruby ring from the early 1900s. I simply love it.
Photobucket
We walked around downtown Franklin and checked out all the amazing shops.
For dinner, we ended up in downtown Nashville at Sitar.
Photobucket
Aron takes his Vegetarian Thali very seriously. It was a delicious, enormous amount of food.
Photobucket
We ended the night with a scoop from Ben and Jerry's. What is Indian food without ice cream for dessert?

We had a great anniversary weekend together. I am truly a lucky woman to have my wonderful Aron:)

Have a good one!

By Golly, I Have A "Real" Camera!

Hey Guys!

I finally did it, I purchased a "real" camera! Well, my husband Aron actually purchased it for me, as a late birthday gift. No more fuzzy iPhone outfit photos, woo hoooo! I've been researching cameras online for quite a  while now (3 long years), and I think the Olympus E-PL1 was the perfect choice for me :)

Though I have a snazzy new camera, awkward arm is still awkward. I'll work on that.
 Dress: Torrid
Leggings: Forever 21 Plus
Bag: Big Buddha
Shoes: Target (old)
Snglasses: Target (old)
Necklace: Gift from Aron

Aron snapped these photos one Saturday afternoon before our Panera run. I love their broccoli cheese soup!

Aron grabbed one of these yummy pecan buns. I was super jealous, so I nabbed a bite. Or two.

Ipsy vs. Birchbox: October Sub Box Review

Hello Again!

I am very late in reviewing my October subscription boxes! But, I was fairly impressed with the boxes last month, and wanted to share goodies I received with you.

Let's start with my October Birchbox.
Here is what I received:
Eve Lom Cleanser & Muslin Cloths
Amika Nourishing Hair Mask
Luna Lemon Zest Bar
Chantecaille Faux Cils Mascara
DDP Advanced Micro-Exfoliation Cleanser

I have used most of these products and enjoyed them. The DDP Cleanser is a nice exfoliant, the mascara gives me lush lashes, and the Luna bar was yummy.

I've been feeling rather "ehhh" about the last few Birchboxes I received. They are beautifully packaged, and generally have some nice skincare items. But, I don't feel that they are necessarily geared towards me. I am in like, but not love, with my Birchboxes. But, this one was a bit better than the previous.

Next up is my first Ipsy box/bag (formally known as My Glam Bag):

Here is what I received:
Coastal Scents Eye Shadow
The Balm " What's Your Type" Bodybuilder Mascara
Be A Bombshell Eyeliner
Mirenesse Lip Bomb Glossy Lacquer Stain
Couture Color Pequi Oil Treatment

I was quite impressed with my first Ipsy bag. First, I loved the Bombshell/Pinup concept, and the bold, feminine products. The Be A Bombshell Eyeliner was long lasting, though the felt tip was a bit thick for my taste. The Balm mascara was lush and lengthening. I've used the Couture Color Oil Treatment a few times, and it leaves my hair very soft.
Plus, with Ipsy, you receive a mini bag each month! I found the chevron stripe bag quite snazzy.

My favorite item from Ipsy was the Mirenesse Lip Bomb Glossy Lacquer Stain. The color is very highly pigmented, goes on glossy, and has the great staying power of a lip stain.

The Coastal Scents eyeshadow was really the only "ehhh" item. The colors are pretty, but the item didn't seem to fit with the Bombshell concept.

So, obviously I am partial to Ipsy. I might give Birchbox one more month (yes, I said this a few months ago), and stick with Ipsy for now.

How many of you subscribe to beauty boxes? What have been your experiences?

Have a good one!

My Trusty Jean Jacket

I have a new love in my life. I found it in the back of my closet, and made it mine once again. It's my trusty jean jacket!
Jean Jacket: Old Navy (old)
Dress: Torrid (old)
Bean Necklace: (Tiffany's-gift from Aron)
I wore this outfit out to dinner with my friend Kelly and her daughter JaiLynn. We had Mexican food, a couple of drinks, and rad conversation. It was fun!
I attempted this hasty manicure before I left for dinner. I used the Project Runway Fall 2012 color, the Muses' Attitude. I love the midnight teal color!

Hope you all have a fab day!

Guest Post: Anya Sarre of ShoeDazzle

Hello again! Check out this fab guest post from Anya Sarre of shoedazzle.com!

Stack Up to the Stars with Layered Looks This Fall

Comfortable fashions make everyone look better. The truth is that the better a woman feels in her own skin, the better she looks. She holds her head higher. She stands straighter. She smiles more easily. Who can know if designers had this phenomenon in mind when they put together their collections for fall 2012? Perhaps it doesn’t matter. The fact remains that fashions for fall 2012 are big, bold and, above all, comfy.

Knitwear and layered looks are the key ingredients in fall fashion this year. Bulky sweaters and fishnet knits both layer casually over a turtleneck shirt or scoop neck top. Knit dresses are definitely in vogue, and their comfortable charm oozes with sensual cozy style when paired with a contrasting knit wrap, opaque tights and sexy knee-high boots.

The toasty warmth of knit layers isn’t the only way fashionistas can celebrate the change of seasons this year. Scarves in bold or bright solid colors wrap sensuously around a woman’s neck or shoulders, emphasizing the feminine mystique while shrouding her in layers of comfort. For less cumbersome layers, women can look to popular layered necklaces. Available in metallic or earth tones as well as popular bright colors, these accessories serve to lengthen the neck and tastefully emphasize the bust.

Stacked heels and platform shoes are everywhere this fall. Their bold, confidant and powerful looks combine with other popular layers in this year’s fall designs to bring out a woman’s most winning attitudes. When her feet are happy, she will be too.

Layering this season goes beyond adding pieces of clothing or stacking jewelry. Layering patterns on other patterns also looks great and delivers bold, confident, hot-off-the-runway looks for both every day and special nights on the town. Pair these classics with plaids, hound’s tooth designs or one of the new paisley patterns that have hit the runway this year.  Patterned scarves in similar hues look great with these sweaters as do many of the new, popular patterned trousers. Dress up the country-casual look of a rustic sweater with a patterned skirt, and complete the look with a pair of opaque tights and clunky shoes.

The layered diversity of this year’s fashion brings flexibility and individuality to each outfit available. The power of fashion brings inner beauty to its peak. Fall 2012 is a great time to stack up to the stars.

Vote!

Hey Y'all!

We voted! Did you?

Get out there and vote today! Don't you give me the excuse that you hate both parties! If you are not feeling the Democrat or Republican candidates, then educate yourself and choose another! (Yes, there are other choices: Libertarian, Green Party, and so on).

Those that know me know I am a card carrying liberal. But guess what? The majority of my friends are conservative. During election years, it is easy to lose sight of how much we all actually have in common. Please vote for the candidate who speaks to you and your values. But, at the same time, let's all show the "other side(s)" a little respect and understanding.

Happy Voting!

Halloween Nuggets

Hello Again!

I hope all of my East Coast peeps safe and sound following the storm. If you would like to donate to the to the Red Cross, please click HERE.

It was a pretty low key Halloween celebration at Casa de Rice. We invited a few friends over for baked ziti, candy, and a bit o' booze.

We passed out funnybooks and candy to the kiddos.
I wore my fab apron Tracy gave me for Christmas last year. Yes, it says "I Wanna Baked Potato".
Poor Aron was subjected to multiple iPhone photos.
I served a few shots of this nectar. If you haven't tried it, you must!

Tracy brought over her delicious and adorable cake bites.
I also subjected everyone to The Chernobyl Diaries. How can such a cool premise go so horribly wrong? It truly was a stinker.

Hope your Halloween was filled with spooky fun!
