My Favorite Things: ASOS Vintage Style Necklace

My Favorite Things is a bit late this Monday, I apologize! My Favorite Thing this Monday is my vintage style necklace I nabbed from ASOS.

Yes, I just wore this in my last post, but it is so fab I had to spotlight it. The necklace reminds me of my grandmother and great-grandmothers costume jewelry from the 50s and early 60s. Love it!

Fun With Snow

This is a rather random post, but I wanted to share with you the video I recorded this morning of our backyard and the falling snow. As you all know, I am very ready for Spring, but there is something to be said for the peaceful calm of the falling snow.

This is my first time using the video feature on the camera, so please excuse the crappy technique. Please also excuse my creepy voice saying "Snowing" in the background!

Stay warm today!

My Favorite Things: Vintage Coat Love ...and Giveaway Fun!

I'm embarking on a new blog adventure: My Favorite Things. I am going to feature my fave items every Monday, to brighten my day, and hopefully yours. By "stuff", I mean anything: fashion, food, places, people, and so on. I would like this to be an interactive feature, with fellow bloggers/readers sending in their submissions to be featured as well. If you are interested, shoot me an email at lolarocksclothing@gmail.com.

I am an avid collector of dresses and coats. The coat part of it never made much sense, since I spent most of my life in balmy North Florida. But now that we have settled in TN, I am finding use for some of this fab outerwear.

This is my vintage camel coat that I picked up in Jacksonville, FL about 10 years ago. It is a swing design, with a rhinestone buckle on the shoulder. The coat is in amazing condition (I think it is from the early 60s), and was made at a local store called Mark's. This coat dresses up any outfit, is flattering, and keeps me toasty warm. It can be tough to find great vintage pieces in my size, but when I do, it is magic!

I gained a fabulous new follower on Google Friend Connect yesterday, but see that I also lost one by morning. I started to question my blog: Was it my "About Me" section that I just posted? Am I too frivolous with my fashion postings?

But I realize that all I can do it write what I know, write about my life, and go from there. Not everyone is going to relate to my blog, or even like it, and that is OK.

That said, I am going to be doing a giveaway late this week/early next week. I am going to start hunting around for some fab items over the next few days. I was going to wait until my followers number hit 100, but I've decided to let that go and just have fun with it. To participate in the giveaway, you will have to follow the blog via GFC, just for fairness sake.

I hope your Monday is going well, I am off to work!

Fashion Nugget of the Day: Gray Skinnies

It is freezing here in TN! We woke up this morning to a gorgeous blanket of snow, and SUNNY SKIES! It has been nothing but gray gloom and doom for the past few weeks, so this is a nice change.

I may not love gray skies, but I do love the gray skinny jeans I picked up at Ross on a shopping trip with Aron's Mom.

Jeans: Ross, can't remember the brand :)

Top: Ross, Jones of New York

Necklace: Evans

Shoes: Me Too from TJ Maxx

I have been a little leery of light denim, afraid it would make my thighs a tad, well, hammy (as in a ham). No, I have no idea how thighs can actually look like a ham, but I digress. I let my bullshit insecurities roll, and decided to purchase the jeans. I think they look fine, thick thighs and all!

I love the stripe, boatneck top. I know vertical stripes and boatnecks are supposed to be "unflattering" for curvy girls, but I tend to think that is bullshit as well. You just have to find the right cut and length, and everything works out fine!

Well ladies, I have to go pack about 50 website/eBay orders! Wish me luck, and have a Fabulous Friday!

Good Times in Music City

Aron's wonderful parents came to visit last week, and we all had too much fun! We spent Sunday in Nashville, and took in the fab sights of Music City.

We started our tour in front of Betty Boots

The Rice's had to get a pic with The King
Me and Aron posing

We were tempted to visit Coyote Ugly, but decided against it...

I found a new friend!

We had BBQ for lunch, then headed over to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Walking through the exhibits, it dawned on me how much I love old school country music. Johnny, Dolly, Patsy, Willie-they rule! Grover snapped this pic of me next to Patsy Cline's dress. Oh, how I love Patsy :)

The King's Gold Caddy
He had a TV and phone in his car, in the 50s! Insane....
His gold piano

Aron eyeing the gold records
Johnny Cash gold record

And ohhhh the fashion!

Dolly Parton's dress

Johnny Cash's Guitar and Suit

Faith Hill's gown

Taylor Swift's Gown

Carrie Underwood's gown

Johnny Cash's Guitar and Set List

The mechanical bull from Urban Cowboy!

It was great to spend time with Aron's parents, and we were sad to see them leave on Monday :( But it was a great visit, and we look forward to seeing them again soon!

February will bring more Floridians our way: our friend Annie, and my BFFs Shawna and Misti! Woot!

Hope you are having a great day (or night)!

Fashion Nugget of the Day

This has been a busy, wonderful week! My inlaws came to visit, and we were able to share our new home (and our new hometown) with them. I will be posting some fun times and fab outfits from the visit later this week, but I wanted to sneak in this Fashion Nugget.

I wore this outfit a couple of weeks ago. I have had the dress, leggings, even the boots for over a year now. The necklace is from Evans, and I love it :)

Leggings and Dress: Mossimo
Boots: Torrid
Necklace: Evans
I have always loved the 70s inspired tunics out there, but since I am very curvy, I feel they can sometimes make me look a bit shapeless or boxy. This issue has never stopped me from wearing a tunic, but I do like this one a bit more than most. It comes in a bit under the bust and gives me more of a shape.
I am sensing that the 70s print tunics and leggings will be an obsession of mine this Spring :)
I hope you are all having a fabulous Tuesday!

Spring Dreaming

It has been snowing for the past two days here in Tennessee, and though the snow is gorgeous, my mind is drifting towards Spring.

Spring is my favorite season. Everything feels bright and new, and you actually get to see the color GREEN again! Living in North Florida for so many years, I took the sunshine and color for granted. Now that the state I live on has actual seasons, I am experiencing a bit of the Winter blahs. So.....I became curious on what is on the horizon for Spring fashion-wise.

There is a wide variety of looks to lust after this Spring. It looks like the main trends are Minimalism, Bold Prints, and the 70s. Here are some of my faves.

Minimalism

BCBG

Miu Miu

Chanel

Bold Prints

Rag and Bone

Oscar de la Renta

The 70s

Marc Jacobs

My favorite designer is John Galliano, and he did not disappoint for Spring. His fashion shows are always over the top and fabulous, and most importantly, they always tell a story. He thinks way outside the box, outside of this universe really. So, it is no surprise he is not really following the trends (maybe a bit of the bold prints in a few pieces).

WWD online gave us the details of his collection "framed by the tale of Mari Lani, an aspiring actress living in Paris during the late 1920s, who convinced Matisse, Cocteau and Chagall among other of-the-moment artists to paint her portrait, promising that the works would be featured in her upcoming film. Once her collection was complete, she sold it, took the cash and shipped out for the States. The film was, and always had been, pure fiction." Yummy!

Isn't Galliano's collection amazing? The models look like flapper dolls emerging from their cocoons!

A far as which trends I love, I think I will be rocking the bold prints and the 70s look, maybe even at the same time, heee heee.

Well, enough Spring dreaming, I need to learn to enjoy this Winter snow!
