My Favorite Things: Photograph of My Grandmother

The My Favorite Things feature has been absent the past couple of weeks, but I am bringing it back! Here is one of my forever favorite things, a photograph of my grandmother, Sophie Griffin.

This was a photo booth picture taken of my grandmother when she was in her 20s. My mom had it restored as much as possible, then enlarged. I have had this photograph for about 20 years, it resides on my dresser, and is very dear to my heart. She was such a beauty! Vivid blue eyes, perfect skin, just gorgeous.

My grandmother was a very strong woman. She lived her childhood and early teenage years the child of a single mother during The Great Depression. Her father had abandoned the family when my grandmother was a little girl. She went on to marry my grandfather, Frank Griffin, when she was 16 years old.

Frank was not a kind person, but she made the best of her life, giving birth to three children, all girls. My grandmother loved the outdoors, especially fishing, gardening, and the ocean. She was an amazing cook. I think her recipe for mac and cheese was transferred to me via osmosis or DNA. My Mom and aunts never cooked it, but mine tastes much like I remember hers tasting :)

She was a great mother and grandmother. Some of my favorite childhood memories are the ones spent with her.

I was 13 years old when my grandmother passed away from ovarian cancer. Though she passed onto the other side, I still feel her nearby, always.

Thank you for letting me share, hope you all have a wonderful day!

A Month of Fabulous Florida Friends

Yes, I have been MIA for a few weeks. We have had some of our Florida friends come into town, and much fun was had by all!

The first week of February, our friend Annie flew up to visit. I was battling the flu at the time, and made her sick as well (which I will feel eternally horrible about). Here is a cute pic of pre-sick Annie and my husband Aron, hanging out on our backyard rocks. Annie named them RiceHenge, like StoneHenge. Annie is The Awesome.

Last week my best friends Shawna and Misti came to visit. It was so wonderful to see them again, and we had too much fun!

We had to stop by Toot's for some beer and fried noms, especially the fried pickles....

The next day we headed to downtown Nashville to honkey-tonk on Broadway.

Blurry pic of all of us.

I miss them so much! I must admit, I shed a few tears at the airport that Sunday.

More fashion posts to come this week!

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday: Color Wars

This is my first Fashion Beauty Friend Friday post, yay!
Here are this weeks Friend Friday questions:

1. What color dominates your closet?
I would say it has to be black...I know, I know. I am slowly gravitating towards different colors. I am drawn to red, coral, yellow, and green.

Funky, bright skirt from last Summer

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?
I would invest in some brighter, funkier pieces that I didn't have to consider mixing and matching with everything I own!

3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?
I don't really have one, lol. I am just starting to enter the world of colors....

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?
In the past, I would use a pop of color in my accessories to "brighten" my dark ensembles. I still like bright accessories, but have moved into trying out funkier colors and prints.

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?
Louise from
Coffee and a Cardigan. I love her color combinations, so pretty!

Fashion Nugget of the Day: Belts?

I was MIA last week due to the flu, I even missed doing My Favorite Things on Monday because I was still trying to get caught up! Next week I will make the effort, I promise!

This is a Fashion Nugget from about a week and a half ago. Photos were banned last week when I was in my sickly state, lol. I have never been a belt person, and I am not sure why. But I have noticed so many plus size fashionistas rocking them, that I thought I'd give it a try. Here we go.....

Dress: Old Navy
Leggings and Belt: Mossimo
Sweater & Boots: Oldies but Goodies
Brass Locket: eBay

It was SO frickin' bright outside that day, so the lighting is a bit off. I bought this dress at Old Navy for $7.99 from their Misses size line. It ran so large that I had to go down to an XL. Old Navy really needs to get it together with their Misses sizing! I think they finally have the plus sizing down, but those items are only available online (boooo!)

Aside from the sizing, I do love me some Old Navy for a deal. This dress is supposed to be loosey goosey, but that didn't really do me any favors, so I picked up this belt at Target for $12 (half off clearance!) and paired it up. I think I am liking the belts these days!

Aron was my photographer, and decided to take a photo of his feet!

OK, back to work for me. Hope you are all having a fab day!
